Can I offer a free trial for my membership?

There are some instances when you may want to offer your customers a free trial to their membership - for example, a 7 day free trial for a monthly membership. Conjured Memberships supports this mechanic using the "Free Trial" option. 

If you're creating a brand new membership, under the Pricing section, input the number of days you'd like to offer as a free trial:

When a customer checks out with a membership that has a free trial, they will not be charged immediately. They'll be prompted to enter their payment information, and then will have full access to all your membership perks until the free trial is complete. When the free trial days have expired, the member will be automatically charged for the tier and payment plan they selected at checkout.

If you're modifying an existing membership, head over to the Pricing tab, and click the edit button - you'll see a similar "Free Trial" section beneath your tiers:

One thing to note is that changes to your free trial length are NOT retroactive. This means that if a member signed up with a 7-day free trial, and you change the trial to 20 days, the member will still be charged 7 days after their initial purchase. Free trial changes are applicable only to new members.

Members can be filtered by "In Trial":

A tag is also added to the Shopify Customer when the member is in a trial:

This tag is automatically removed when a member's first successful payment is processed.

Finally, there is a Shopify Flow trigger that is automatically sent titled "Membership Trial Started", and you can optionally enable a Klaviyo event "Membership Trial Started" on the Settings page within the app. 

Important: Please note that Free Trial and Discount amounts off the first payment period are not compatible. Since the standpoint of the membership subscription is $0 (for the free trial), Shopify won't allow entering a discount code at checkout.
